Hidden Away - Art Nouveau Treasures in Vienna’s Historic Centre   Deutsche Version dieser Tour
In the historic heart of Vienna, the cityscape is largely shaped by the eclectic styles of the late 19th century. Yet hidden among these grand façades lies a wealth of lesser-known Art Nouveau gems. Apart from a few celebrated masterpieces that grace many guidebooks, much of Vienna’s Jugendstil architecture blooms quietly in secluded corners—often paired with more traditional styles that were long considered more acceptable. On this tour, we uncover these treasures, appreciate their elegance, and enjoy their exquisite details. Join us on this off-the-beaten-track journey of discovery—you will not regret it.
Starting at the Secession building, the tour leads to the graceful glass Palm House in the Burggarten, to Adolf Loos’s controversial “House Without Eyebrows,” whose unadorned façade caused an uproar when it was completed, and to several other remarkable townhouses showcasing the creative spirit of the era. We also feature interiors designed by students of Otto Wagner, offering insight into the evolution of Viennese Modernism.
The tour concludes on bustling Kärntnerstrasse.
Meeting Point 1., Friedrichstrasse 12, in front of the Secession
