In addition, we offer talks on a variety of Austria-related subjects, and ancestry research services.
Private Walking Tours of Classical Vienna
Until the 1850s, Vienna was a comparatively small walled city that covered what today comprises the historic city centre within the Ringstrasse Boulevard. Most of the city's highlights such as the imperial residence, the mansions of the nobility and the cathedral are located there. As buses are not allowed to enter the historic centre, the best way to explore its treasures is on foot. Therefore, most of our tours are walking tours. They can be booked by individuals or groups. Just browse through the wide range of tours we offer in English, or search by keyword. Should you not find anything that intrigues you, contact us and we can tailor a tour to your specific interests and needs to help you to make the most of your stay in Vienna.
Public Special Interest Tours
Our two most popular tours are also on offer as public tours: Jewish Vienna Past and Present and Vienna in the Footsteps of The Third Man. Please check our calendar for dates. These two tours take place with a minimum of three full-paying guests. Just meet your guide at the designated meeting point at the time stated, pay and go. Don’t be afraid that we will herd you around with a huge group where you may hear little and see little. The group size hardly ever exceeds 20 walkers and we guarantee that you will get the same personal service as on a private tour. Under normal circumstances, booking is not required but because of the pandemic and to comply with government regulations, we now have to operate a booking scheme.
Private Walking Tours of Districts and Neighbourhoods
From the mid-nineteenth century onwards, the inner and outer suburbs were incorporated into the city. Today, Vienna consists of 23 districts each of which is proud of its own character, its own history and its own quaint neighbourhoods. Some of them have come to life again through urban renewal plans; in some of them time seems to have stood still. Walking tours are the best way to explore them, sometimes in conjunction with a short Metro ride or as part of a city sightseeing tour by bus.
Hiking or Cycling Tours out into the Green
Vienna has more green spaces within its city boundaries and lots more immediately beyond than any other European metropolis and offers plenty of opportunities for accompanied hiking or cycling tours. There are hilly woodland paths and roads in the legendary Vienna Woods on the western edge of the city as well as miles and miles of level tracts of land along the Danube, the Danube Canal or in the former imperial hunting grounds of the Prater at the eastern end of the city.

Genealogical Research
Until 1918, Vienna was the capital city of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the second-largest coutry on the European continent. It was a multi-national country reaching from Istria in the south to Galicia in the north and from Transylvania in the east to Lake Constance in the west. By 1914, its overall population was over 50 million, Vienna the fourth largest city in the world. The prospect of a better life, access to higher education and career opportunities drew people to the city. Jewish families from the shtetls of Galicia or Bukovina, farm labourers from Bohemia of Moravia, artists from Hungary or businessmen from Trieste all made Vienna a multi-faceted melting pot.
